The Jamaican born founder, herself a radio broadcaster and host of the Ever Blazing Friday Showcase has been a resident of Maryland, intermittenly since 1997. She lamented on her early introduction to WEAA in 1997, ” I had to wait an entire week to hear reggae, soca, or news relating to the Caribbean diaspora and at times had to drive a distance to catch a clear signal, sometimes sitting in my car in parking lots or on the side of the road to soak in the vibrations of Caribbean centered programs.” An experience she expressed was her weekly connection with her roots. Mrs Francis said, “the lack of inclusion of Caribbean centered programs and music on local radio was agonizing!”

She added that technology has aided in filling this gap through the explosion and extended reach of internet based radios and looks forward to its new integration with WEAA local college and community FM station with her internet-based Global Linkz Radio.

As a Morganite majoring in Psychology at Morgan State University, Phyllis Francis expressed that, she feels very much a belonging to the WEAA family.
