Empress Skortcher's radio journey began in Jamaica during the vibrant 70s and 80s, immersed in a rich tapestry of live broadcasts and pre-recorded shows spanning genres like gospel, Ska, Rocksteady, Calypso/Mento, Reggae, Dancehall, Bluegrass/Country, and Rhythm And Blues. One cherished memory was tuning in to the Sunday Serenade on Radio Jamaica, where she embarked on imaginary voyages inspired by the evocative melodies and entrancing instrumentals. As an introspective child, radio became a portal to new perspectives and cultures, shaping her worldview.

Later, while studying at Texas A&M University-Central Texas, USA, Empress delved deeper into the intricacies of musical notation and European/Western music theory across different historical eras as well as an exploration into African music development. This diverse education exposed her to the works of early vocalists, composers, writers, and performers, enriching her appreciation for the artistry behind the music.

Now, as a seasoned radio personality, Empress Skortcher continues to curate a dynamic mix of music on-air, blending original recordings with re-creations for a seamless listening experience. Tune in and experience the magic of her eclectic musical journey, where every Sunday brings a new adventure.

The Sunday Serenade airs from midnight to noon, showcasing diverse music genres spanning the 18th to 20th centuries, including Orchestra, Classical, Film Score, Opera, Jazz, Popular, Swing, and more. Expect a unique mix each Sunday, featuring original recordings by the original performers, with a few re-creations for smoother radio playback.
